KANSAS CITY -- Jose Abreu had the seventh four-hit game of his career, Yoan Moncada had his first career three-hit game, and the White Sox belted out 17 hits on their way to an 11-3 rout of the Royals on Monday night at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals fell three games behind the idle Twins for the second American League Wild Card spot.
"[Abreu] has been swinging the bat very well," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "He has been extremely consistent over the last month. It's great to see."

Reynaldo Lopez went six innings and gave up eight hits and three runs -- his fourth quality start in five outings this season -- for his first win with the White Sox. The 23-year-old right-hander walked none and struck out one.
"They're going to be a really, really good team," Royals manager Ned Yost said of the White Sox. "You look at their system and they have 10 of the Top 100 Prospects in baseball. No team has that. They're talented."
Royals right-hander Jason Hammel gave up 10 hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings, his shortest stint since April 30. It also was the first time Hammel didn't go at least six innings since Aug. 10.
"It was just one of those games we got to forget," Hammel said. "We got a quick turnaround [Tuesday]. And we're still very much in this thing. Just an off night."
Brandon Moss hit his 20th home run for the Royals.
Abreu came to bat in the ninth with a chance to hit for the cycle, his second in as many games, needing a home run. Instead, he drew a walk.
"I knew it," Abreu said through a translator. "Everybody around me was saying 'go for the homer.' I couldn't, but the most important thing was that we got a win today and we're happy."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Big triple, No. 1: The Royals were rattled from the start when Yolmer Sanchez led off the game with a bloop single that barely cleared the infield. Then Moncada, who had a career-high three hits, jumped on a Hammel slider and shot it into the right-field corner for a triple. Abreu followed with a single to give the White Sox a 2-0 lead and they never looked back.

"I felt good out there," Hammel said. "Honestly, I think it was just one of those nights. A weird night. Everything I threw up there, they either placed really well or hit it hard."
Big triple, No. 2: The Royals crept within 5-3 after a three-run fifth. But the White Sox quickly answered. Moncada delivered his third hit, a single, and Abreu followed with a shot past Eric Hosmer at first base and into the right-field corner. Abreu scored on an error, and the lead stretched to 7-3. Later in the inning, Adam Engel, hitting just .176 entering the game, crushed a three-run home run that traveled a projected 426 feet, according to Statcast™, to cap a six-run inning and seal the win.

STREAK ENDS
Hosmer's streak of nine consecutive hits ended when he grounded out in the fourth inning. The club record is held by Joe Randa (10 in 1999).
WHAT'S NEXT
White Sox: Right-hander Dylan Covey (0-4, 8.08 ERA) will make his ninth start of the season in the middle game against the Royals on Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. CT. Over 49 innings, opponents have hit .330 against Covey. The White Sox continue to evaluate Covey's potential with an eye toward next season.
Royals: Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (3-5, 4.41) is set to make his second start since coming to the Royals on Tuesday against the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium. Gaviglio gave up just one run over five innings in his Kansas City debut against the Twins on Thursday.
