SAN DIEGO -- Let the (real) games begin.
The Padres and White Sox wrapped up their exhibition slate Saturday afternoon at Petco Park with a 10-2 Chicago victory. Avisail Garcia sparked the come-from-behind win with his fifth homer of the spring and the team's 51st -- the most in the Majors.
For the Padres, Drew Pomeranz tossed four scoreless innings and Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Pomeranz, who was informed he'd won a rotation job Friday, looked very sharp, allowing just two hits, while striking out four.
"I felt like I finished up pretty well today," Pomeranz said. "A lot of things I've been working on, I went out there today and executed them. I feel good about that last outing [of Spring Training.] That's all you can ask for."
Meanwhile, White Sox starter John Danks gave up two earned runs on six hits over five frames. Danks has been named the club's No. 5 starter and will pitch the home opener on Friday against the Indians.
Chicago pulled ahead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by No. 2 prospectTim Anderson, before scoring seven in the ninth.
Five of those runs were charged to left-hander Jeremy Guthrie, who worked 3 1/3 innings in his Padres debut and allowed six earned runs on seven hits. Guthrie signed a Minor League deal on Friday and will begin the season at Triple-A El Paso.
Up next for Whte Sox:Chris Sale makes his third career Opening Day start and his first career Opening Day start on the road as the White Sox travel to Oakland for the 2016 regular-season opener Monday night. The team has a workout Sunday, and then Sale will try to improve on his 2-0 mark in season openers when he takes the mound. Newcomers Todd Frazier, Jimmy Rollins, Brett Lawrie, Alex Avila and Austin Jackson all will be part of the Opening Day lineup.
Up next for Padres: The regular season begins Monday with Tyson Ross set to take the hill vs. the Dodgers at Petco. Said Ross of his Opening Day nod: "Monday can't come soon enough for me. … It's a tremendous honor." Ross has faced the Dodgers 10 times (eight starts) and has yet to record a win, but he still owns a 2.67 ERA against them.
