Fans can't get enough of Hawk alarm clocks

White Sox giveaway features announcer's greatest calls

May 14th, 2017

CHICAGO -- The first 20,000 fans who attended Saturday's contest between the White Sox and Padres at Guaranteed Rate Field now can have iconic television announcer Ken "Hawk" Harrelson wake them up without Harrelson being present in their homes.

A Hawk Alarm Clock giveaway truly resonated with the fans, as long lines were featured outside the ballpark hours before 's first pitch. And Harrelson himself received many calls to help obtain one.

"I've had over 400 requests, from friends all over the country. A couple from Venezuela," said a smiling Harrelson, speaking on the field moments before he threw out a first pitch with his son and two grandsons. "I told them buy a ticket to the game.

"That's the only way you are going to get one. We got a lot. I think they saved me about 100, and those are all gone."

This alarm clock releases six of Hawk's most well-known broadcasting calls:

• Stretch

• You can put it on the board

• Rack 'em up

• Mercy

• He gone

• This ballgame is ovah

Harrelson, 75, did an entertaining commercial with MLB Network analyst and former pitcher Dan Plesac helping to promote a target date already on the calendar for many White Sox fans.

"When they first told me about it, I said, 'That's a pretty neat idea,'" Harrelson said. "I thought about it later, and as it turned out, it has grown. This thing has a little bit of a life of its own."

Harrelson has a bobblehead night coming up with the Class A Kane County Cougars on June 15 in Geneva, Ill., where he also will throw out a first pitch. It will be difficult to top the alarm clock.

"I haven't listened to it," Harrelson said. "I just heard it go off in the hotel room where we were filming the spot. But I'm glad it worked out well. I'm real glad it worked out well. It was a good idea."
