White Sox option Opening Day starter Smith to Triple-A

Prior to Wednesday's series finale vs. Baltimore, the White Sox made the following three roster moves:

• Optioned RHP to Triple-A Charlotte;
• Selected the contract of LHP from Charlotte;
• Transferred INF/OF (right elbow surgery) to the 60-day injured list.

Smith, 26, is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA (10 ER/8 1/3 IP), nine walks and 11 strikeouts over three starts this season. He was the Sox Opening Day starter on March 26 at Milwaukee.

Schweitzer, 25, is 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA (1 ER/5 IP) in two relief appearances with Charlotte this season, allowing five hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw two scoreless innings in his season debut on March 28 vs. Durham and gave up one run over three innings on April 2 at Nashville.

Schweitzer, 6-foot and 190 pounds, has gone 22-15 with a 4.13 ERA (158 ER/344 IP) and 342 strikeouts in 77 games (57 starts) over five Minor League seasons in the White Sox organization. He compiled a scoreless streak of 32 2/3 innings from July 18-September 4, 2025 with Double-A Birmingham.

Schweitzer, a native of Fishers, Ind., was selected by the Sox in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft out of Ball State University. He will wear uniform No. 62.

Baldwin, 25, underwent a season-ending UCL internal brace procedure on his right elbow on April 1.

The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
