CHICAGO -- is set to go on a Minor League rehab assignment after working through a simulated game Saturday. If all goes well in Gonzalez's one start, the right-hander will rejoin the team after rosters expand on Sept. 1.
Gonzalez has been on the disabled list since Aug. 12 with a strained right groin.
"Everything's good," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Next step is he is going to go out and see how that goes."
remains in a holding pattern after returning from his rehab assignment last Tuesday. The White Sox second baseman has been on the disabled list since July 27 (retroactive to July 22) with a strained left hamstring but also had a follow-up MRI on his knee and calf that showed everything was structurally sound.
"He's still trying to figure out what's going on there," Ventura said. "Picture-wise, as far as medical pictures, they don't really have an answer for it. He still feels like there's something in there. I don't know if it's a second opinion or just trying to figure out what's going on there."
Tebow's baseball pursuit
Nick Hostetler, the White Sox director of amateur scouting, won't be at Tim Tebow's baseball showcase reportedly coming this week somewhere in Los Angeles. But Hostetler has a working knowledge of Tebow's ability on the diamond, having scouted him in high school close to a decade ago.
"He is really, really athletic, really strong," Hostetler said. "The bat was a long way away. He had bat speed and strength to him, and he could throw. He was high-energy guy, I'll give him that. Never has changed. He's kind of a similar guy to what he always has been."
Hostetler applauds the former NFL quarterback for pursing a new career path.
"He's a heck of an athlete," Hostetler said. "I hope Tim gets a chance to prove whether or not he's a baseball player and can play the game. It's a hard game, but if there's somebody I wouldn't doubt, it probably is Tim Tebow. I give the kid a lot of credit for trying."
