White Sox invite 3 Top 100 prospects to spring camp

CHICAGO -- Left-handers Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith have been top prospects for the White Sox literally since they joined the organization as first-round Draft picks in 2022 and ‘24, respectively.

The mound duo also has received plaudits on the national level, with Schultz sitting at the No. 49 prospect overall and Smith at No. 72 on MLB Pipeline’s most recent Top 100 list. They are expected to help the White Sox as soon as the 2026 season, and as two of the 22 non-roster invitees to Spring Training as announced by the team Thursday. Their work begins on Feb. 10 at Camelback Ranch.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to see these guys in Spring Training,” said White Sox general manager Chris Getz during a pre-SoxFest Live media session Thursday. “Noah is feeling really good, and the way Hagen finished the season last year in the playoffs and the Fall League … 2026 is a new season for those guys and us.

“We anticipate that they are going to be able to help us at some point. But most importantly coming to Spring Training, have a productive one, be healthy and have the best version of themselves throughout the year.”

Here is the full list of 15 players from within the Sox organization invited to Spring Training:

Right-handed pitchers (5): Mason Adams, Adisyn Coffey, Tyler Davis, Zach Franklin and Ben Peoples
Left-handed pitchers (4): Shane Murphy, Schultz, Tyler Schweitzer and Smith
Catcher (1): Michael Turner
Infielders (3): Sam Antonacci, William Bergolla Jr. and Jacob Gonzalez
Outfielders (2): Dru Baker and Braden Montgomery

Montgomery is the highest-rated prospect among the White Sox at No. 36 overall, per Pipeline, giving the South Siders' Spring Training camp a whopping three Top 100 prospects. He’ll get a legitimate look but almost certainly won’t break with the team after finishing with Double-A Birmingham in a strong 2025 professional debut.

The White Sox also have agreed to terms on Minor League contracts with the following seven free agents:

  • Right-handed pitcher (1): Tyson Miller
  • Left-handed pitcher (1): Ryan Borucki
  • Infielders (3): Oliver Dunn, Tim Elko and LaMonte Wade Jr.
  • Outfielders (2): Dustin Harris and Jarred Kelenic

All seven players have received non-roster invitations to White Sox Spring Training camp in Glendale, Ariz.

“Jarred Kelenic is a guy that we’re excited about bringing in here. He’s a higher-profile player that played in Seattle and Atlanta,” Getz said. “Hasn’t quite been able to tap into his potential, but we’re really excited to be able to work with him to be able to see what we can get out of Jarred and if he can help us out.

“Ryan Borucki is an arm we feel like can fit into our bullpen. He’s pitched in the big leagues and he’s been very effective against lefties. He’s developing some weapons to help combat righties as well. Those are probably the two standouts at this point from outside the organization, but we know Spring Training will come and as we get to know these guys more, I’m sure there’s going to be other players that perhaps make a push for the Opening Day roster.”

Schultz was hampered by right patellar tendinitis last season, while Smith dealt with some inconsistencies during a season for Birmingham featuring 108 strikeouts against 56 walks over 75 2/3 innings. They are both ready for the new season.

“They are so much stronger, both physically and mentally, because of what they have been through,” Getz said.

The first workout for pitchers and catchers is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, with the first full-squad workout set for Sunday, Feb. 15.
