White Sox to celebrate Thome Day on Aug. 11

Legendary slugger will be inducted into Hall of Fame on July 29

March 6th, 2018

The White Sox will honor soon-to-be Hall of Famer Jim Thome with a ceremony at Guaranteed Rate Field on Aug. 11. Thome Day will be celebrated prior to Chicago's 6:10 p.m. CT contest against the Indians. The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a Jim Thome Hall of Fame Bobblehead.
Thome, 47, is one of six members of the 2018 Hall of Fame class, and will be inducted into Cooperstown on July 29 alongside Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Jack Morris and Alan Trammell. The slugger will be the 40th former White Sox player to make the Hall of Fame, and the fifth elected in their first appearance on the ballot.
"Jim Thome is one of the most respected players of his time and has been a Hall of Famer in the hearts of White Sox fans since he donned black and white pinstripes," White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing Brooks Boyer said. "We're excited to invite fans to salute the Hall of Famer as he is enshrined into baseball history."

Thome, a five-time All-Star, played 22 seasons in the big leagues from 1991-2012 and spent '06-09 with the White Sox. His 612 home runs are the fourth most in MLB history by a left-handed hitter. He batted .276 for his career and totaled 1,699 RBIs, 1,583 runs and 2,328 hits.

Thome will enter the Hall of Fame as a member of the Indians, with whom he spent the majority of his career, but he still has ties to Chicago, where he's currently serving as a special assistant to White Sox general manager Rick Hahn.
