ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun will miss an extended period of time with a left forearm fracture sustained in Texas’ 8-0 win over the Royals on Saturday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

Calhoun was hit by a pitch while batting against reliever Kris Bubic in the second inning and ran the bases before being lifted the following inning.

Manager Chris Woodward said the club won't know the extent of the injury until Calhoun undergoes further testing with team doctors. Calhoun was slashing .254/.323/.385 this season while splitting time between left field and designated hitter.

Calhoun has struggled with injuries throughout his career with the Rangers, missing time in both 2019 and '20, and getting a late start to the ‘21 season with a groin injury. Last year, Calhoun only played in 29 games of the pandemic-shortened season while he battled a fractured jaw in Spring Training, a strained oblique muscle and a left hamstring strain.

If Calhoun has to spend significant time on the injured list, David Dahl is likely to get an early callup from his rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco. Dahl was hitting just .208 when he landed on the 10-day IL with a left rib cage contusion. He’s slashing .381/.381/.667 between Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock on his rehab assignment.
