WASHINGTON -- In the midst of a the Mets' nightmare first inning Tuesday, first baseman Wilmer Flores left the club's 25-4 loss to the Nationals due to dizziness and dehydration.
Starting at first, Flores doubled in his lone at-bat in the top of the first inning, but began experiencing dizziness as he pulled up at second base. He was unable to field two ground balls in his general direction in the bottom of the inning, which he chalked up to feeling ill. With one out and the Nationals stringing together an extended rally, Flores requested a replacement.
"He just wasn't feeling good, so he kind of took himself out of the game," manager Mickey Callaway said.
Phillip Evans entered, playing first base the rest of the way.
Although Flores could not target the source of the issue, he was feeling markedly better by the end of the game. An on-site doctor examined Flores and told him his blood pressure was slightly high, but discovered no other abnormalities. Flores did not receive an IV or any other medication.

"I felt really dizzy, and I felt like really hot," Flores said. "My face was hot. I was sweating more than I should and my heart was racing. … I feel a lot better [now]. I feel good."
In 85 games, Flores is batting .265 with nine home runs and a .766 OPS. He has been starting regularly at first base for the Mets, though assistant general manager John Ricco said earlier Tuesday that the team may soon call up Dominic Smith to split time at the position.
Ricco also said teams expressed interest in dealing for Flores before the non-waiver Trade Deadline, but the Mets decided to keep him.
