Langford heads to IL with forearm strain, hopes for quick return

April 22nd, 2026

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have their first major injured list stint of the season.

On Tuesday, the Rangers announced that left fielder was placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 flexor strain. Alejandro Osuna was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in his place.

Langford left Tuesday night’s 5-1 victory over the Pirates at Globe Life Field before the top of the fifth inning with right forearm tightness and underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning.

He said he initially felt it on the first full swing of his second at-bat Tuesday night, though he finished the plate appearance and played defense the following inning while it felt sore.

That being said, Langford believes it’s “pretty good news” all things considered. He doesn’t expect to miss more than the 10 days.

“I woke up very sore this morning, just kind of general soreness in there,” Langford said. “Nothing painful or concerning, really, it's kind of as expected. It's in a good spot, in the mid-belly of the forearm. I don't really know too much about all of it. I’m just telling you what I've been told, but it’s all pretty good things.”

Langford has started 20 of the Rangers’ 23 games this season, batting .238 with one home run, two triples, three doubles, and four RBIs. He has reached base in a season-high 11 consecutive games since April 6, matching the longest on-base streak by a Ranger this season (also Corey Seager, April 8-present).

After a slow start, he was slashing .370/.433/.407 over his last seven games.

“First of all, it’s tough news with Wyatt, but having said that, when you hear flexor, you do fear the worst,” said manager Skip Schumaker. “Hopefully it's a very short stint, and he's back on day 11. As much as it stinks putting him on, Osuna will be here. He'll get some at-bats for sure. [Ezequiel] Duran is tough to take out the lineup right now, and he's doing really well.”

This is the fifth injured list stint for Langford in his two-plus MLB seasons. He had a trio of oblique strains in 2025, along with a hamstring strain in his rookie season in ‘24. He was sidelined with quad soreness during the last road trip, but he avoided the injured list.

“These are injuries I'm not sure you can prevent, right?” Schumaker said. “I don't know what the learning lesson would be. He works hard. It's not like he's doing stuff off the field. He’s intentional. He does prehab and rehab. He's doing all this stuff to get his body right. He’s very intentional with his work. It’s unfortunate that here we are. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense.”
