ST. LOUIS -- The Marlins have won the season series against the Cardinals for the first time in a decade after Miami's 5-1 victory over St. Louis at Busch Stadium on Saturday.
The win also pushed the Marlins to five games over .500 for the first time since they finished the 2023 season at 84-78 to earn a Wild Card berth. Miami has now won seven of its eight series this month.
The Marlins struck first in the opening frame when Otto Lopez, who leads the Majors with a .336 batting average, tripled to right field before scoring on Kyle Stowers' RBI single.
Stowers picked up his second RBI of the game in the third, driving in Joe Mack after the catcher opened the inning with a single.
Miami added two more runs in the fourth. Jakob Marsee led off with a double before Griffin Conine advanced him to third. Javier Sanoja followed with an RBI single, then Xavier Edwards delivered a two-out single that allowed Sanoja to race home from second.
Edwards was caught in a rundown between first and second to end the inning.
The Marlins tacked on another run in the seventh when Edwards doubled before Lopez drove him home with a single to right, collecting his 34th multihit game of the season.
