KANSAS CITY -- Yairo Munoz will have his right wrist reexamined on Saturday after having to exit Friday's 7-0 loss to the Royals after aggravating that wrist during a sixth-inning swing.

The Cardinals announced the initial diagnosis as a sprain, though the club should get a better feel for the severity after Munoz undergoes additional testing. He left Kauffman Stadium on Friday with a brace on his hand.

"He's got a little something that's bothering him with his wrist and it was aggravated on that swing," interim manager Mike Shildt said. "One of those swings just didn't feel right for him."

Shildt said he did not think the injury was related to Munoz jamming the same wrist while making a catch against the wall at PNC Park last Friday. He had his wrist heavily wrapped in ice after that game.

At the plate for his third at-bat of the night, Munoz grimaced as he swung and missed at a first-pitch fastball from Royals reliever Glenn Sparkman. That brought out athletic trainer Adam Olsen, and Munoz headed to the dugout after a brief conversation.

Munoz was replaced by Adolis Garcia, who struck out to complete the at-bat. Garcia remained in the game to play right field and later tallied his first Major League hit with an eighth-inning single.
