TORONTO -- was placed on the disabled list on Sunday after he was forced to leave Saturday afternoon's 3-1 loss to the Rays in the second inning because of a right oblique injury. No. 3 prospect, a catcher, was called up from Triple-A Buffalo.
Solarte swung and missed at a pitch from Rays right-hander and then fell to one knee. Blue Jays trainer Nikki Huffman ran onto the field and shortly after that, Solarte was removed from the game.
"It's an oblique," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said when asked if the injury would require a stint on the DL. "We'll have to get somebody else up here."
With Solarte on the shelf, infielder likely will get some starts at third base.
Summoning Jansen allows the Blue Jays to use the versatile at third base and allow one of their emerging players to make his debut behind the plate. Jansen has hit .275 with 12 homers in 88 games for Buffalo.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has homered in four consecutive games Buffalo, remains in the Minors. Toronto continues to take a cautious approach with its prized assets and it's believed Guerrero will not debut until next season.
