Yankees sign first-round Draft pick Rutherford

June 29th, 2016

The Yankees signed high school outfielder Blake Rutherford, their top selection in the 2016 Draft and the No. 18 overall pick, on Wednesday.
New York will assign Rutherford to its Gulf Coast League affiliate, the team announced.
According to MLB.com's Jim Callis, Rutherford has signed for $3,282,000 -- significantly over the allotted slot bonus of $2,441,600 for the 18th overall pick. The club has not confirmed the terms of the deal.
Rutherford, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-handed-hitting prospect from Chaminade College Preparatory School in West Hills, Calif., was rated the No. 8 overall prospect entering the Draft by MLBPipeline.com. The 19-year-old hit .577 (45-for-78) with four home runs in his senior season.
The Yankees have now signed each of their top 10 Draft picks.
