Yankees' Lagrange fires fastest pitch at Triple-A this season

As the temperature heated up, so did Carlos Lagrange's four-seamer.

The Yankees' No. 4 prospect notched the fastest pitch thus far of the Triple-A season -- 103 mph -- in Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre's 5-3 win over Syracuse on Sunday at PNC Field. Lagrange also registered the next four fastest pitches of the day at the level.

In the top of the second inning, MLB's No. 76 prospect toed the rubber against Mets infielder Jackson Cluff. On a 1-1 count, Lagrange popped a fastball above the strike zone. Cluff checked his swing, and the third-base umpire confirmed it.

There didn't seem to be much reaction from Lagrange or battery mate Payton Henry. The 22-year-old came back with a 94 mph slider for a looking strike and then got Cluff swinging on a 102.4 mph fastball at the bottom of the zone for his third strikeout of the afternoon.

Lagrange entered Sunday with the top-two fastest pitches at Triple-A this season, coincidentally notching his previous top mark against Syracuse earlier in the series. As of Sunday, the righty now holds eight of the 10 fastest pitches and 14 inside the top 20 this season.

For reference, during the 2025 season at Triple-A, the Dodgers' Eduardo Henriquez finished the year with the six fastest pitches, topping out at 104.3 mph in early August. Henriquez claimed 18 of the top 20 spots by season's end.
