Aaron Judge's solo home run in the fourth inning of Saturday afternoon’s 2-1 loss to the Dodgers was a fine sight to see for the Yankees, for a few reasons.

Judge’s 424-foot homer to center field was New York’s first hit of the game off a locked-in Tony Gonsolin, and it was the slugger’s third long ball in five games. But it was also the latest addition to the history books for the Yankees in a season that has seen them inking impressive offensive records left and right.

With Judge’s shot, the Yankees tied the record for most home runs in a month with 58. That puts them even with the 1987 Orioles, who did it in 28 games in May, and the ‘99 Mariners, who did it in 27 games in May of that year.

However, the history-tying homer was the only run New York could muster in the middle game of a series between two powerful teams leading their respective leagues. Joe Kelly, Pedro Baez and Kenley Jansen combined to throw four shutout innings after Gonsolin exited, preventing the Yankees from holding this particular record outright. At least for the time being.

The Yankees have played just 23 games in August and have six more to play before the month is out; Sunday's finale against the Dodgers, then a three-game set against the Mariners in Seattle, followed by the first two games of a three-game Labor Day Weekend series at home against the Athletics.

It’s hard to imagine the team won’t surpass 58 and have yet another home run record all to themselves.
