Puig, Seager among NL Gold Glove finalists

HOUSTON -- For the first time in their Major League careers, and were named National League Gold Glove Award finalists at their respective positions on Thursday.
The winners will be announced on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN. Each position receives three finalists from each league, and after the Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners are announced, one player from each league will be named a Platinum Glove Award winner.

Seager, the 2016 NL Rookie of the Year Award winner, would be the first Dodgers shortstop to win a Gold Glove since Cesar Izturis won the award in 2004.

And a Los Angeles right fielder hasn't been named a Gold Glove winner since took home the award in 2011.
"That's awesome," Seager said on Thursday during a workout in advance of tonight's Game 3 of the World Series presented by YouTube TV.
"Obviously it's a prestigious award. It's always nice to receive awards from people in the game. It's humbling. You never know if you'll stick at short and play there, so that makes this extra special."

"I worked my entire time here with the Dodgers to try to win a Gold Glove and thank God that I'm nominated. Now I just have to wait for the vote to see if I'm the winner," said Puig.

The award is the result of voting by managers in each league plus a sabermetric component provided by the Society for American Baseball Research -- the SABR Defensive Index.
This year's Gold Glove Awards represent just one way the game's top performers will be recognized. Voting is underway now for the Esurance MLB Awards, which annually honor MLB's greatest achievements as part of an industry-wide balloting process. MLB Awards season will culminate on Nov. 17, when winners are announced live on MLB Network and MLB.com starting at 8 p.m. ET.

The 23-year-old Seager is joined by the Phillies' and the Giants' , a two-time Gold Glove winner. Seager led the trio with 10 DRS and was second in the NL among shortstops to Colorado's .
DRS measures most fielding plays but is not applied when teams are in extreme defensive shifts.
