Major League Baseball announced today that Yerik Pérez has been promoted to Director of Dominican Republic Operations. Pérez, who has served in that capacity on an interim basis since last August, will continue to report to Jorge Pérez-Díaz, MLB’s Senior Vice President and Special Counsel for Litigation & International Affairs.

Yerik Pérez has been a part of MLB’s staff in the Dominican Republic since 2009, beginning as a Baseball Operations assistant and then transitioning to MLB’s Department of Investigations. In the latter role, he conducted inquiries regarding MLB’s rules and policies, including matters related to the use and possession of performance-enhancing substances. From 2015-2018, the work of Pérez’s team substantially reduced instances of age and identity fraud in the Dominican. He has administered training for players and other Baseball personnel in the Dominican and throughout Latin America.

Pérez-Díaz said of the promotion of Yerik Pérez: “Major League Baseball is pleased to promote Yerik Pérez. With his significant experience in the core areas of our operations, Yerik is well suited to take on this expanded position leading our day-to-day efforts in the Dominican Republic.”

Yerik Pérez is a summa cum laude graduate of the Iberoamerican University Law School in Santo Domingo, where he also has worked as a Sports Law professor. The Santo Domingo native also has an LLM in Corporate Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra and an LLM in Legal Strategy from the Instituto Especializado de Investigación y Formación en Ciencias Jurídicas.
