Alvarez, Pages take home Player of the Week honors

Astros superstar and Dodgers rising youngster mashed their way to being named Players of the Week on Monday, while Angels outfielder earned the Play of the Week nod for one of his jaw-dropping three home run robberies on Saturday night.

Alvarez managed just 48 games in 2025 as he dealt with multiple injuries, but the Astros slugger has returned to his menacing form at the outset of a healthy 2026. He batted .471 during the week, recording three homers, two doubles and eight RBIs with seven walks to just three strikeouts.

“Air Yordan” is currently tied for third in baseball with four homers, is tied (with teammate Jose Altuve) for the lead with 12 walks and is leading the Majors in on-base percentage (.578) and slugging percentage (.900).

Alvarez has been named the AL Player of the Week three other times in his career, with his most recent coming in August 2024.

Pages, 25, enjoyed a breakout season in 2025 while recording 3.8 Baseball-Reference WAR. He’s on an early track to surpass that in 2026 after slashing .583/.615/.917 in the first full week of the season. That included two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs.

Pages currently sits atop the MLB leaderboards with his .471 batting average and 16 hits (both tied with the Marlins’ Xavier Edwards).

This is the second NL Player of the Week nomination for Pages, who earned his first in April 2025.

Finally, Adell took home the second Play of the Week Award of the season thanks to one of the greatest single-game defensive performances baseball has ever seen. The 26-year-old denied three Mariners (Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor and J.P. Crawford) of home runs in Saturday’s 1-0 Angels win.

His final act of thievery -- in the ninth inning -- was particularly special. He leaped over the right-field fence and tumbled into the stands, all while maintaining control of the ball to make the out.

The heroics not only helped clinch a win, but they also created an incredible photo from a fan in the stands, who captured Adell standing in the front row while proudly presenting the ball with outstretched arms.

“That was crazy,” Adell said. “Just after the first one, we were pretty fired up out there. And then I got the second one, which looked identical to the first one. And I was like, ‘Wow, like my routes are on point tonight.’ The third one was just grit, just top of the ninth, getting it done.”
