PHOENIX -- Cruising through the first five innings of Thursday night's 2-1, 11-inning loss to the Nationals, the one thing Zack Greinke and the D-backs were missing were runs.
So Greinke made sure he took care of that.
Greinke's two-out single to left in the bottom of the fifth off Tanner Roark scored Ketel Marte from second and gave the D-backs a 1-0 lead.
Greinke said after the game that he's changed his approach at the plate.
"Maybe just trying not to hit homers and just trying to hit the ball hard and not even that, just trying to hit the ball," Greinke said. "And I've been doing good the past three or four games. I don't know how long it will last for, but I've been hitting the ball pretty good."

Greinke, though, wasn't done, as he got himself into scoring position by stealing second base. It was the sixth steal of his career and his first since June 23, 2016.
"When you get a little bit close to the bag like that you feel like he could roll an ankle," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "It's an instinctual play. We didn't tell him to steal. He did it on his own."
It didn't seem to tire him as he went out and retired the Nationals in order in the sixth.
