Cedric didn’t start until his junior year at Brookwood (Ga.) High School after being cut from the varsity team as a sophomore…the summer after his junior season, his father, Boyce, printed a list of as many collegiate baseball programs as possible, instructing Cedric to email the coaches of schools that interested him…despite countless cold emails over the coming weeks, Cedric was unable to find a program that would recruit him…he finally broke through at a tournament in Cary, N.C. during his senior year when he impressed a scout from Louisburg (N.C.) College…it proved to be an ideal fit as he was born in Greensboro and still had family living in North Carolina...Some of Cedric’s hobbies include playing video games, juggling and watching anime…he has been a fan of anime, a style of Japanese film and television animation, since his childhood…Cedric and his younger brother, Kyle, were dedicated “Naruto” fans until the popular show ended in 2014…some of his other favorites include “Attack on Titan”, “My Hero Academia” and “Demon Slayer”…at the 2021 MLB All-Star red carpet in Denver, Cedric wore a pair of sunglasses with cloud-shaped lenses symbolizing the Akatsuki, a group of ninjas featured in “Naruto...His nickname, “The Entertainer,” comes from the famous comedian and actor Cedric the Entertainer, who he grew up watching on the popular sitcom “The Steve Harvey Show”…Cedric’s youth teammates first coined the nickname because of his exciting style of play…in 2018, it was featured on the back of his jersey for MLB Players Weekend...Cedric was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2020 and underwent intestinal surgery after the season…in the wake of the procedure, an infection caused him to rapidly lose 20 pounds…the following year, he still managed to become the Orioles first member of the 30-30 club…he has partnered with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation since 2022...Cedric and his wife, Erika, were married in 2022 and welcomed their daughter the next year…the couple has a Boerboel dog, Lilo.
