A's Blake Treinen named AL Reliever of the Month for May

Oakland A's right-handed closer Blake Treinen has been named the American League Relief Pitcher of the Month for May.

KANSAS CITY -- Oakland A's right-handed closer Blake Treinen has been named the American League Relief Pitcher of the Month for May.
Treinen, 29, finished the month of May going 1-0 and 10-for-10 in save opportunities with a 0.59 ERA in 15.1 innings of work spanning 14 appearances. He logged 19 strikeouts and five walks, limiting opposing batters to a .151 batting average against.
The Missouri native ranks third in the American League with a 0.99 ERA among relievers this season. His 13 saves rank tied for fourth. Since joining the A's via trade during the 2017 season, Treinen is 5-5 with a 1.65 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 57 outings, including 26 saves and 75 strikeouts in 65.1 innings of work. He has gone more than one inning in 10 of his 22 appearances this season, and six of his 13 saves have been more than one inning.
Treinen is the first Athletics player to win the Reliver of the Month award, and this is first time Treinen has won a monthly award in his Major League career.
