OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A’s designated right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney for assignment and selected left-handed pitcher Wei-Chung Wang from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Rodney was 0-2 with a 9.42 ERA and .345 opponents batting average in 17 relief appearances with Oakland. This is his 17th season in the majors and he is 48-68 with 325 saves and a 3.79 ERA in 913 career appearances. The saves rank 18th in Major League history and the games pitched are 23rd. The 42-year-old right-hander was the oldest active player in the majors.

Wang was a non-roster invitee with the A’s this spring and is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in 16 relief appearances with Las Vegas. He has a .255 opponents batting average, including .200 against left-handed hitters. Wang made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 2014 and also pitched in the majors with the Brewers in 2017. The 27-year-old left-hander is 0-0 with an 11.09 ERA in 22 career big league appearances over two seasons. Wang will become the first native of Taiwan in Athletics history.
