A’s place RHP Blake Treinen on IL; select RHP Brian Schlitter from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Blake Treinen on the 10-day injured list retroactive to June 21 with a strained right shoulder, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A’s selected right-handed pitcher Brian Schlitter from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Treinen is tied for fifth in the American League with 16 saves and has a 4.08 ERA and .250 opponents batting average in 30 appearances. He has converted each of his last 10 save opportunities, but has a 7.36 ERA and .311 opponents batting average over his last 11 games. This is his first career stint on the injured list.

Schlitter was 4-1 with 10 saves and a 3.89 ERA in 27 games with Las Vegas. He is tied for second in the Pacific Coast League in saves and tied for 10th in games pitched. The 33-year-old right-hander has a .281 opponents batting average, but has walked just five batters in 34.2 innings. Schlitter logged a 5.94 ERA over his first 14 games through May 10 but has a 2.00 ERA in 13 appearances since then. He made his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2010 and is 3-6 with a 5.40 ERA in 78 relief appearance in three seasons in the majors. Schlitter last pitched for the Cubs on June 14, 2015.
