A’s reinstate Canha from the IL; designate Morales for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha from the 10-day injured list and designated first baseman Kendrys Morales for assignment, the club announced today.

Canha was batting .200 with two home runs and four RBI in 18 games when he was placed on the IL April 29 with a sprained right wrist. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday and went 1-for-8 (.125) with a double and RBI in two games. Canha has started games three different positions for Oakland, including nine at first base, two in left field and two in center field.

Morales was acquired from Toronto March 27 with cash for minor league infielder Jesus Lopez and international slot money. He hit .204 with a home run and seven RBI in 34 games with Oakland. Morales started 23 games at first base and five at designated hitter.
