Angels acquire RHP Felix Pena from Cubs

The Angels today acquired RHP Felix Pena from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Jason Gurka has been designated for assignment. Today's announcements were made by Angels General Manager Billy Eppler.

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels today acquired RHP Felix Pena from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Jason Gurka has been designated for assignment. Today's announcements were made by Angels General Manager Billy Eppler.
Peña, 27, appeared in 25 games across five stints with the Cubs this season and went 1-0 with a 5.24 ERA (34.1 IP - 20 ER). In 24 games with Triple-A Iowa, he was 2-1 with six saves and a 5.54 ERA (39 IP - 24 ER). Peña made his Major League debut with the Cubs on Aug. 19, 2016 vs. Colorado. In 36 career Major League appearances (all in relief), is 1-0 with one save and a 4.98 ERA (43.1 IP - 24 ER).
A native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, he was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on March 9, 2009. Peña has been named a minor league All-Star three times (2013-15) and has compiled a 31-40 career record in the minors with a 13 saves and a 3.90 ERA (667.2 IP - 289 ER) across nine seasons in the Chicago (N.L.) organization.
