Astros Announce July Minor League Players of the Month

The Houston Astros player development department has named IF Abraham Toro-Hernandez the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for July, and RHP Rogelio Armenteros the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July.

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros player development department has named IF Abraham Toro-Hernandez the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for July, and RHP Rogelio Armenteros the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July.
Toro-Hernandez, 20, raked at two separate levels in the Astros system during the month of July, batting .315 (28x89) with five doubles, seven home runs, 16 RBI, 18 walks, 14 strikeouts and a 1.038 OPS (.431 OBP/.607 SLG) in 26 games between Class A Short Season Tri-City (21g) and Class A Quad Cities (5g). The Astros fifth-round selection in the 2016 draft out of Seminole State College (OK), Toro-Hernandez clubbed nine extra-base hits (5 doubles, 4 homers) in 21 games at Tri-City before receiving a promotion to Quad Cities on July 27. He then homered in each of his first two games with the River Bandits, including three of his first four.
A switch-hitter, Toro-Hernandez has been one of the best power hitters in the Class A Midwest League since his arrival at the level on July 27. Since that date, he ranks in the top 10 in the Midwest League in home runs (4), slugging (.652), total bases (30) and in OPS (1.052).
Armenteros, 23, made five starts with the Triple A Fresno Grizzlies this July, his first-career starts at the Triple A level, and won all five of them. During the month, he led the Pacific Coast League in wins (5) while ranking tied for third in strikeouts (33) and eighth in ERA (2.86, 9ER/28.1IP). 
A native of La Habana, Cuba, Armenteros has been one of the best pitchers in Houston's farm system this season. He was named a Double A Texas League Midseason All-Star with Corpus Christi after going 2-3 with a 1.93 ERA (14ER/65.1IP) and 74 strikeouts in 14 games (10 starts) prior to his promotion to Triple A in July. He currently leads all Astros farmhands in ERA (2.28) and ranks third in strikeouts (115).
