The Astros Foundation was presented with the 2018 Barbara Falik Humanitarian Award by the Houston Food Bank this morning at the seventh-annual Feeding Hope Breakfast. Astros Foundation Executive Director Twila Carter accepted the award on behalf of the Foundation.
"Houston Food Bank is grateful for our partnership with the Astros Foundation, especially for its support of our programs that feed hungry children," said Houston Food Bank Chief Development Officer Amy Ragan. "The Food Bank is humbled by the opportunity to present the Astros Foundation with the Barbara Falik Humanitarian Award. The Astros Foundation truly shows World Champion-level generosity toward our community."
For 19 years, the Barbara Falik Humanitarian Award has been presented to companies or individuals who have emulated Barbara's pioneering spirit and commitment in making a significant impact on hunger relief in Houston.
In 2017, Astros Foundation volunteers packaged over 89,000 meals at the Houston Food Bank for those in need. The Astros Foundation sends volunteers to the Houston Food Bank once a month and conducts food drives at Minute Maid Park throughout the year to supplement the Houston Food Bank's resources. Additionally, the Astros Foundation sends volunteers to the Houston Food Bank as part of the annual Astros Caravan, which often includes visits from Astros players and mascot Orbit.
"The important work done by the Houston Food Bank is essential to our community and we are proud to support their efforts," said Astros Foundation Executive Director Twila Carter. "The Astros Foundation is deeply honored to receive the Barbara Falik Humanitarian Award and we look forward to our continued partnership with the Food Bank."
