Astros sign first-round Draft pick Korey Lee

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have signed 2019 first-round MLB Draft selection C Korey Lee today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Lee, Luhnow and Domestic Scouting Supervisor Kris Gross will be available to media today after Astros batting practice at approximately 5 p.m. on the field at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros drafted the 21-year-old junior out of the University of California-Berkeley with the 32nd overall pick in the draft. In 2019, Lee hit .338 (67x198) with 12 doubles, 15 home runs and 57 RBI while posting a 1.045 OPS (.619 SLG/.419 OBP) in 51 games for the Golden Bears. Lee was also one of the top defensive catchers on the collegiate level, as he caught 12-of-27 attempted base stealers this season. Lee was a First Team All-Pac 12 selection and a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, which goes to the top collegiate catcher.
