The St. Louis Cardinals and The Cordish Companies are proud to announce that Ballpark Village has been selected as a finalist for the Urban Land Institute's (ULI) Global Awards for Excellence. Widely recognized as one of the land use industry's most prestigious awards programs, ULI's Global Awards for Excellence honor outstanding development projects on an international platform in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. The Awards for Excellence program, established in 1979 and subsequently expanded to a global program, recognizes real estate projects that achieve the highest standard of excellence in innovative design, construction, economics, planning, and management. The Cordish Companies has been awarded an unprecedented seven ULI Awards for Excellence, more than any other developer in the world. Ballpark Village is one of two finalists this year for The Cordish Companies.
"We are incredibly honored that Ballpark Village was selected as a finalist this year for the ULI Global Awards for Excellence," stated Blake Cordish, Vice President of The Cordish Companies. "The ULI Global Awards for Excellence is the most prestigious award in urban development and most importantly recognizes projects that make a significant positive impact on their communities. We are proud to have delivered a world-class project with our partners, the Cardinals, that is playing such a significant role in the growth of St. Louis."
Ballpark Village, a partnership between the St. Louis Cardinals and The Cordish Companies, represents a groundbreaking approach to urban development, the first time a professional sports venue was master planned and fully integrated into a broader mixed-use development. Ballpark Village has played a pivotal role in the revitalization of downtown St. Louis since opening in 2014, employing 1,700 and welcoming over 10 million guests in its first three years.
Based on the success of Phase I, the St. Louis Cardinals and The Cordish Companies recently announced a dynamic $220 million, 550,000 square foot second phase that includes a 29-story, high-rise luxury residential tower, the first Class-A Office Building in downtown St. Louis in nearly thirty years, and additional retail, restaurant and entertainment space.
"Ballpark Village has had a huge impact not only by enhancing the game day experience for our fans, but also acting as a vibrant year-round attraction for downtown St. Louis," said Bill DeWitt III, President of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Twenty-five finalists were selected by an international jury made up of ULI members representing a multidisciplinary collection of real estate development expertise, including finance, land planning, development, public affairs, design, and other professional services. A group of winners chosen from the finalists will be announced in October at the 2017 ULI Fall Meeting in Los Angeles.
"Each of the finalists demonstrate a thoughtful, innovative approach to urban development that is adding to the sustainability and livability of the communities in which they are located," said Global Awards Jury Chairman Wendy Rowden, president, 42nd Street Development Corp., New York City. "The attention paid to project detail, flexible design, and neighborhood context were among the factors making these entries stand out. They represent the type of development that will withstand the tests of time and change."
