Brewers partner to raise money for pancreatic cancer research

Community Invited to Support the Cause at PURPLE TIE GUY Event on July 14

July 1st, 2019

MILWAUKEE – A cancer diagnosis is one of the most devastating curveballs life can throw at someone. This is especially true for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, as it is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. More than 56,000 will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the year to come, with survival rates under 10 percent.

To raise awareness about and combat this disease, the Brewers are holding a PURPLE TIE GUY event at Miller Park on Sunday, July 14, supporting the We Care Fund for pancreatic cancer research. The event will be held in the Johnson Controls Stadium Club and begin shortly following the Crew’s game (5:30 p.m.).

A member of the Brewers family was struck by this terrible disease recently, a battle that Director of Medical Operations Roger Caplinger won when he was declared cancer free this past October. But the fight isn’t over for so many others in our community, and throughout the country.

“This Is My Crew” isn’t just a phrase. The Milwaukee community is one family, supporting each other in good times and bad. This is your chance to stand alongside those who are currently facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

By contributing $500 to support the cause, individuals will be invited to attend this exclusive cocktail reception alongside Brewers legends Bob Uecker and Robin Yount. All attendees will receive a custom-designed purple necktie or scarf to show their support for families everywhere faced with battling this disease.

All proceeds will benefit the We Care Fund, which was created by the Pancreatic Cancer Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin to accelerate groundbreaking pancreatic cancer research. The program is one of the premiere centers in the United States for the care of patients with pancreatic cancer that is dedicated to integrating medical research with clinical care to benefit the patients of today and tomorrow.

Space for this event is limited. Those interested in joining the Brewers in combatting pancreatic cancer must RSVP to Erica Bowring by email ([email protected]) or phone (414-902-4581) by Monday, July 8. For those unable to attend the PURPLE TIE GUY event on July 14 that would still like to make a contribution, donations may be sent to Brewers Community Foundation, C/O Purple Tie Guy, at Miller Park.
