ST. LOUIS, MO - May 1, 2018 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's game that they have recalled first baseman Luke Voit from Memphis (AAA) and optioned right-handed pitcher Mike Mayers to the triple-A Redbirds.
Voit, 27, was batting .205 (8-for-39) in 12 games at Memphis after missing the early portion of the season while on the disabled list with an oblique strain. The right-handed hitting Voit, a St. Louis native, batted .246 with 4 HR's & 18 RBI for the Cardinals during his rookie season last year. He was 10-for-33 (.300) with a home run in pinch-hit appearances for the Cardinals.
Mayers was most recently recalled on April 27 and closed out the game last Saturday, April 28 with 1.2 innings in relief. He is 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA and one save in four relief appearances (6.2 IP) for the Cardinals this season.
