Cards Recall Pitcher Génesis Cabrera From Memphis (AAA); Pitcher Ryan Helsley Placed on 10-day Injured List

ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 13, 2019 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s game in New York, that they have recalled rookie left-handed pitcher Génesis Cabrera (pronounced hen-e-sis) from Memphis (AAA) and placed rookie right-handed pitcher Ryan Helsley (right shoulder impingement) on the 10-day Injured List.

Cabrera, 22, is being recalled for the second time this season. He’s made a pair of starts for the Cardinals this season, including his Major League debut on May 29 at Philadelphia. Cabrera’s last outing for the Cardinals came on June 4 in a start vs. Cincinnati. He was optioned back to Memphis following the game on June 4 after going 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA in his two starts with St. Louis that totaled 8.1 innings pitched.

The Dominican-born Cabrera is 3-3 with a 5.84 ERA in 10 games (8 starts) for Memphis this season. He worked 5.0 innings, allowing one run, while fanning eight in his most recent outing on June 9 at Reno.

Helsley, who was recalled from Memphis on Monday (June 10), worked 1/3 of an inning last night in Miami. The rookie hurler has made seven relief appearances for the Cardinals this season, going 0-0 with a 3.48 ERA, striking out 12 in 10.1 innings pitched.
