July 15th, 2019

BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox today announced that Colm Lydon, a Superintendent and 37-year veteran of the Boston Police Department, has been hired to assume the role of Director of Security and Emergency Services for the club. Lydon’s employment with the club begins today, Monday, July 15.

Lydon recently retired from his position as Superintendent in charge of the Bureau of Intelligence & Analysis for the Boston Police Department, where he supervised the Boston Regional Intelligence Center which collects, analyzes, and shares crime-fighting data with law enforcement partners on the local, state, and federal level.

“Colm is the perfect candidate to lead our security department forward,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy. “He has extensive experience managing large events in the city and his prominent role in the local, national, and international law enforcement and intelligence communities place him at the forefront of the constantly changing security world. The club is committed to placing the highest priority on the safety and security for all who visit Fenway Park and Colm will help us personify that mentality.”

Longtime Red Sox Security Director Charlie Cellucci will be retiring from his full time position at the end of the year and will remain with the club through the transition. Cellucci joined the Red Sox in 2004 after a 32-year career with the Boston Police Department that included a stint as Captain of District 4 where he oversaw Fenway Park. He rose to the rank of Deputy Superintendent before joining the Red Sox.

“Charlie has been the architect of our security program over the past 16 baseball seasons and has elevated all areas of the operation,” said Kennedy. “His outstanding leadership and proactive approach to fan safety and security allowed us to anticipate and react to any scenario arising at the ballpark. We could not be more grateful for Charlie’s tireless efforts and will continue to rely on his expertise and experience to ensure a smooth transition.”
