Colorado Rockies recall outfielder Raimel Tapia

LOS ANGELES -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled outfielder Raimel Tapia from Triple-A Albuquerque, and have optioned right-handed pitcher Jon Gray to Triple-A.
• Tapia, 24, will be making his first stint on the active Major League roster this season … in 74 games for Albuquerque, has batted .308 (97-for-315) with 61 runs, 25 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, 48 RBI, 22 walks, 61 strikeouts and 18 stolen bases … is tied for the Pacific Coast League lead with 61 runs and 25 doubles, ranks second with 97 hits and ranks tied for third with 18 stolen bases and seven triples … in 70 games for the Rockies in 2017, batted .288 (46-for-160) with 27 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 16 RBI, eight walks, 36 strikeouts and five stolen bases … the San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, native was signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted international free agent on November 29, 2010, and made his Major League debut with the Rockies on September 2, 2016 vs. Arizona … in his career with Colorado, has batted .283 (56-for-198) with 31 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 19 RBI, 10 walks, 47 strikeouts and eight stolen bases … in his Minor League career across parts of eight seasons, has batted .321 (922-for-2874) with 479 runs, 171 doubles, 45 triples, 49 home runs, 386 RBI, 182 walks, 466 strikeouts and 150 stolen bases.
• Gray, 26, was the Opening Day starter for the Rockies, his second consecutive Opening Day start … has gone 7-7 with a 5.77 ERA (92.0 IP, 59 ER), 29 walks and 119 strikeouts in 17 starts this season … the Shawnee, Okla., native was originally selected by the Rockies in the first round (third overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and is 27-23 with a 4.71 ERA (411.0 IP, 215 ER), 132 walks and 456 strikeouts in his career that spans parts of four seasons … the 456 strikeouts rank ninth all-time among Rockies pitchers, and his 119 strikeouts this season rank fourth in the National League.
