Colorado Rockies select outfielder Matt Holliday from Triple-A Albuquerque

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of outfielder Matt Holliday from Triple-A Albuquerque and have optioned infielder Garrett Hampson to Triple-A.

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of outfielder Matt Holliday from Triple-A Albuquerque and have optioned infielder Garrett Hampson to Triple-A. 
Holliday, 38, was signed by the Rockies to a Minor League contract on July 29 … has batted .346 (18-for-52) with 12 runs, four doubles, three home runs, 14 RBI, nine walks and nine strikeouts in 15 games with Albuquerque … also appeared in one game with Rookie Level Grand Junction, going 1-for-3 with one double … was originally selected by the Rockies in the seventh round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft and batted .319 (848-for-2656) with 479 runs, 188 doubles, 23 triples, 128 home runs, 483 RBI and 66 stolen bases across parts of five seasons with the Rockies (2004-2008) … in parts of 14 seasons with Colorado, Oakland (2009), St. Louis (2009-16) and New York-AL (2017), the seven-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger has batted .299 (2081-for-6956) with 1154 runs, 466 doubles, 32 triples, 314 home runs and 1217 RBI in 1878 games … he will wear #7, with Hampson switching to #2. 
Hampson, 23, has batted .273 (6-for-22) with one run, one double, one triple, two RBI, five walks and one stolen bases in 10 games across two stints … made his Major League debut July 21 in Arizona in a start at second base and recorded his first career hit, a double, off Zack Godley in the fifth inning … the Reno, Nev., native was originally selected by Colorado in the third round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Long Beach State.
