D-backs agree to terms with T.J. McFarland on a 1-year contract

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with LHP T.J. McFarland on a 1-year contract.
McFarland, 28, led National League relievers in 2017 in ground-ball pct. (69.8) and finished second in ground ball-to-fly ball ratio (4.88). He limited left-handed hitters to a .222 average and a .548 OPS in a career-high 43 appearances (1 start), while going 4-5 with a 5.33 ERA (32 ER in 54.0 IP) in his first season with the D-backs.
Since 2013, McFarland ranks among Major League relievers in ground balls induced (5th, 517), ground-ball pct. (8th, 63.0) and ground ball-to-fly ball ratio (10th, 3.36). Additionally, his 517 ground balls are the most by a left-handed reliever during that span.
In 5 Major League seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (2013-16) and D-backs (2017), he is 16-12 with a 4.49 ERA (126 ER in 252.1 IP) in 164 appearances (3 starts). McFarland originally signed as a Minor League free agent with Arizona on March 2 with an invitation to Spring Training
