Former Pirates great Dave Parker is one of nine former big league players and one executive who comprise the 10-name Modern Baseball Era ballot to be reviewed and voted upon December 8 at the Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego. The announcement was made by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

In addition to Parker, Dwight Evans, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Don Mattingly, Marvin Miller, Thurman Munson, Dale Murphy, Ted Simmons and Lou Whitaker are the candidates the Modern Baseball Era Committee will consider for Hall of Fame election for the Class of 2020. All candidates are former players except for Miller, who was the head of the Major League Baseball Players Association from 1966-82.

Parker compiled a .290 average over 19 Major League seasons with six teams, including 11 seasons in a Pittsburgh uniform from 1973-1983. In his big league career, he produced 339 home runs, 1,493 RBI and won back-to-back batting titles in 1977-1978. 

Over a six-year span from 1975-1980, Parker ranked third among all National League players in hits (1095), second in doubles (215) and total bases (1799), fifth in RBI (569) and tied for eighth in home runs (131). He also led all N.L. outfielders in assists (86), ranked second in games played (868) and third in double plays (15) during that same period. 

Parker was voted the 1978 National League Most Valuable Player after leading the league with a .334 average in addition to hitting 30 home runs and collecting 117 RBI. He also led the N.L. with a .338 average, 215 hits and 44 doubles in 1977. A seven-time All Star, Parker was named MVP of the 1979 Mid-Summer Classic. He also captured three Gold Glove Awards for his fielding excellence during his stellar career. 

The results of the Modern Baseball Era Committee vote will be announced live on MLB Network's "MLB Tonight" at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 8. Any candidate who receives votes on 75 percent of the ballots cast by the 16-member Modern Baseball Era Committee will earn election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 26, 2020, along with any electees who emerge from the 2020 Baseball Writers' Association of America election, to be announced on January 21, 2020. 

The Modern Baseball Era is one of four Era Committees, each of which provide an avenue for Hall of Fame consideration to managers, umpires and executives, as well as players retired for more than 15 seasons.
