Do it for Durrett event scheduled for Wednesday, June 19

May 6th, 2019

The Do It For Durrett Foundation has been about helping families impacted by sudden loss since it was started a little less than five years ago in the wake of the death of Richard Durrett.

As the foundation has grown, it has been able to help more families each year and bring them into the Do It For Durrett family.

On June 19, Do It For Durrett We Are Family will continue a tradition that has allowed the Foundation to help more than 100 families thanks to the more than $1 million that has been raised since Richard died at the age of 38.

“When we talk to families that we help, we like to tell them that they’re part of our family now,” Do It For Durrett president Emily Jones said. “We really believe that. It’s not just about giving them money and moving on. There’s nothing better for us than being able to keep in touch with the families and hear about their successes and what’s happened to them. It extends to the volunteers who show up and help us every year, too. We are really one big family.”

Just like the last two years, DIFD We Are Family will take place in the air-conditioned goodness of the Hyundai Club overlooking center field at Globe Life Park as the Rangers take on Cleveland. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:05 game with doors opening at 6. This marks the third year of a partnership between the DIFD Foundation and the Texas Rangers Foundation. Part of the proceeds from the Texas 2 Split 50/50 from three games this season goes to the DIFD Foundation.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at doitfordurrett.com. Tickets are $125 for reserved seating and will be mailed to the buyer. If you buy your tickets before May 10, you will get $10 off each ticket. Tickets starting on May 11 will be regular price and seating is limited. All ticket prices include a game ticket, dinner and an event T-shirt. Reserved seating also includes an open bar. The event will also include a few surprise special guests like those familiar with DIFD events are accustomed to. There will be live and silent auctions, with $50,000 going to Dallas resident Nick Bourgeois and his infant son, Liam. Cancer was found to have metastasized during his wife’s Dominque’s 36-week checkup during her pregnancy. A C-section was performed and Dominique, a school teacher in Richardson, died a week later. Nick and Liam will be the fifth recipients of a $50,000 check from DIFD. They will receive the check in a pre-game presentation on the field.

“Liam’s doing great,” said Nick, who met his wife when they were college students at Texas A&M. “He didn’t have to spend any time in the NICU. He’s been just perfect. It’s therapy in itself having a little slice of her in Liam. I can’t thank the Do It For Durrett Foundation enough for its support.”

The live auction will be only for those who have tickets in the Hyundai Club. The silent auction, which will be located just outside the Hyundai Club, will be open for everyone at the park in a bid to raise more money and more awareness for the foundation.

“We’re honored that we’ve been a part of the organization that’s so near and dear to us since it started,” said Neil Leibman, chairman of the Texas Rangers Foundation. “What Do It For Durrett does falls in line with the type of things we want to do with the Texas Rangers Foundation. It’s a great tradition for both of us.”
