Dodgers Recall Paul Gervase, Chayce McDermott

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitchers Paul Gervase and Chayce McDermott, optioned left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes and placed left-handed pitcher Jack Dreyer on the injured list with left shoulder discomfort.

Gervase, 25, returns for his second stint with the Dodgers after appearing in one game and tossing three innings of one-run ball on May 9 against the Braves. With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, he is 2-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 10 games. He has appeared in seven Major League games in his career, posting a 3.97 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. The 6-foot, 10-inch hurler was drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the 2022 First Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University.

McDermott, 27, was acquired on April 16 from the Orioles in exchange for minor league pitcher Axel Perez. He made eight appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, posting a 4.32 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 8.1 innings. He started the season with Triple-A Norfolk, going 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 5.1 innings. He made his Major League debut in 2024, making one start, allowing three runs in four innings. In 121 minor league appearances, he is 22-25 with a 4.38 ERA and 584 strikeouts in 417.1 innings. He was drafted by the Houston Astros with 132nd pick in the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of Ball State University.

Barnes, 30, made two appearances for the Dodgers, tossing two scoreless innings. He has been in the Majors with the Minnesota Twins (2021), Chicago Cubs (2026) and Dodgers (2026), recording an 0-3 mark with a 5.86 ERA in 43 innings. In six minor league seasons, he owns a 27-24 record with a 3.86 ERA and 370 strikeouts in 424.1 innings. He was a fourth round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Clemson.

Dreyer, 27, is in his second season with the Dodgers and he is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 20 games. He has fanned 24 batters in 21.2 innings while holding a 0.97 WHIP and has not allowed a run since April 22nd, tossing 11.1 scoreless innings in that span. Last season, he went 3-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 67 games (five starts). The southpaw was signed as minor league free agent on April 19, 2018 after playing three seasons at the University of Iowa.
