Eric Hinske Named Angels Hitting Coach

The Angels today announced Eric Hinske has been named as the Club's hitting coach. Today's announcement was made by Angels General Manager Billy Eppler.
 
Hinske (pronounced HIN-skee), 40, joins the Angels after spending the previous four seasons on the Chicago Cubs Major League coaching staff. He initially joined Chicago's staff in 2014 as first base coach and spent each of the last three seasons as assistant hitting coach. The Cubs reached the postseason each of the last three seasons and captured the 2016 World Series championship.
 
The former first baseman/outfielder, played 12 seasons in the big leagues appearing with Toronto (2002-06), Boston (2006-07), Tampa Bay (2008), Pittsburgh (2009), New York Yankees (2009), Atlanta (2010-12) and Arizona (2013) batting .249 (947/3,797) with 549 runs, 240 doubles, 18 triples, 137 home runs and 522 RBI in 1,387 games. Hinske claimed A.L. Rookie of the Year honors in 2002 after hitting .279 (158/566) with 38 doubles, 24 home runs and 84 RBI in 151 games. He led all rookies in doubles, home runs and hits.
 
A two-time World Series champion with Boston in 2007 and the Yankees in 2009, he appeared in 10 playoff games from 2007-10. He made three consecutive trips to the World Series while with the Red Sox ('07), Rays ('08) and Yankees ('09), joining Don Baylor as only players to play in World Series in three straight seasons with three different teams.
 
Originally drafted by the Cubs in the 17th round of the 1998 Draft, Hinske attended the University of Arkansas and is a 1995 graduate of Menasha (Wis.) High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football.
 
A native of Menasha, Wis., Hinske and his wife Kathryn have three children, Ava, Dylan and A.J. and reside in Scottsdale, Ariz.
