On Thursday, April 14, a new Phillies red alternate jersey will officially make its regular-season debut during the 1:05 p.m. game against the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies players will wear the jersey six times in total, all at home during their mid-week day games - which are Citizens Bank Business Persons Specials - held on Thursday, April 14; Wednesday, May 18; Wednesday, June 8; Monday, June 20; Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, August 4.
The Phillies all-new red jersey design is part of Majestic's new Flex Base uniform system, a design developed through insights from Major League players, innovative fabric technologies and extensive wear testing over the last two years. All of the new Flex Base uniforms feature a new, lighter weight twill technology and mesh panels on the sides of the jerseys which reduce the overall weight of jerseys by 10-20 percent and enhance freedom of movement.
"We're excited to bring a new, colorful look to Citizens Bank Park this year," David Buck, the Phillies' senior vice president of Marketing and Advertising Sales. "We have great respect for the history of our uniform, so by going with a simple, classic design, we feel we've been able to balance a new look with our storied tradition."
This will mark just the second time the team has worn red jerseys during a regular season game - the first and only other time being the infamous Saturday Night Special uniforms from May 1979 when the club donned all burgundy uniforms at Veterans Stadium.
All of the team's jerseys will be part of the new Flex Base style from Majestic - the traditional home pinstripes, the cream home alternates and the grey road jerseys.
The Phillies will also debut a new-look batting practice cap for the regular season, New Era's lightweight, performance based Diamond Era 59FIFTY cap featuring a red crown, blue bill and an embossed National League logo on the wearer's right side.
New Spring Training Look for 2016
As announced last week by Major League Baseball, along with Authentic Collection partners Majestic and New Era, a version of the new Flex Base uniforms will debut in Spring Training. This new look includes these same in-season lighter-weight uniforms, a new cap design, specially-marked balls and other on-field elements. Players will continue to wear New Era's lightweight, performance-based Diamond Era 59FIFTY caps throughout Spring Training.
The primary logo of the Grapefruit League, which includes a highway-like road sign with state initials, is located on both the caps and jerseys. On the caps, a logo patch is on the left side, while the right side features an embossed National League logo. All jerseys will include the state logo patch on one of the sleeves. The names and numbers on the backs of all jerseys will feature a sublimated Spring Training design pattern featuring Spring Training marks and the silhouetted batter logo. These sublimated designs are also found on the inside of the caps' crowns.
Note: there are no sublimated designs or patches featured on the new Phillies Red Alternate Jersey, only the Phillies Spring Training Jersey.
