Guess who’s going to dance the air cycle? Hundreds of kids to celebrate a ‘Very Phanatic Earth Day’

Free Earth Day event hosted by the Phillies, Constellation & Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education

April 19th, 2019

WHAT: In honor of the 49th annual Earth Day, hundreds of children will be treated to a rousing, upbeat celebration – featuring the greenest mascot in the major leagues – at a ‘Very Phanatic Earth Day’ free event held in partnership with the Phillies, Constellation and the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.

  • The event kicks off in the Schuylkill Center’s amphitheater, an outdoor seating area with a series of rock steps that engage the audience in movement-based stories about nature and ecology. The Phanatic, as well as Phillies Director of Public Affairs Scott Palmer, will lead the audience in dancing the air cycle, creating a magical rainstorm, and telling a food chain story with lots of sound effects.
  • Children will also get to plant a tree, with the Phanatic digging the first ceremonial shovel of dirt. The tree planting will be followed by a round of Earth Day Bingo, an interactive game that helps teach simple tips to conserve energy and be more sustainable.
  • The Schuylkill Center was founded in 1965 as Philadelphia’s first environmental education center. Its 340 acres of fields and forests serve as a living laboratory to foster appreciation, deepen understanding, and encourage stewardship of the environment. Features include a wildlife rehabilitation clinic, an environmental art program, volunteer opportunities and educational programs for all ages, including Nature Preschool.
