The Cleveland Indians today signed RHP Josh Tomlin to a two-year contract extension with a club option for the 2018 season.
Tomlin, 31, compiled a 7-2 mark in 2015 with a 3.02 ERA in 10 starts for Cleveland (65.2IP, 47H, 22ER, 8BB, 57SO, .195 avg) after undergoing right shoulder surgery in March. Joining the Indians rotation on August 15, he ranked among A.L. pitchers in average against (2nd, .195), opponents on-base percentage (1st, .227), strikeout to walk ratio (1st, 7.13), wins (T1st), innings pitched (3rd), strikeouts (T10th) and WHIP (1st, 0.84) from that date until the end of the season. He went 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 5 September starts, tossing two complete games in the process.
The Whitehouse, Texas native is currently the longest tenured player in the organization after his 19th round selection in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in games for the Indians over each of the last six seasons since 2010, posting a career Major League mark of 36-30 with a 4.65 ERA in 95 games/80 starts (513.1IP, 524H, 265ER, 87BB, 339SO, .262 avg).
