CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League roster:
Recalled C/OF FRANCISCO MEJIA (#27) from AAA Columbus.
Optioned RHP SHANE BIEBER to AAA Columbus.
Mejia, 22, has spent virtually the entire season with Columbus, batting .279 (83-for-297) with 21 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs and 43 RBI in 77 games (.329/.428/.757). He is currently tied for 8th in the International League in doubles and 10th in RBI and is coming off a June where he hit .455 (45-for-99) with 14 2B, 4 HR & 23 RBI in 24 games. He has appeared in 40 games behind the plate, 23 in left field and 7 in right field. This is his second stint with Cleveland, the first of which came on June 11 in Chicago (did not appear in the game).
