February 23rd, 2019

The Cleveland Indians announced Saturday that the club has signed free agent RHP Tyler Clippard (#48) to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Clippard, 34, spent the 2018 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, finishing tied for 4th in the American League in games pitched (73) while posting a season ERA of 3.67 (28ER/68.2IP). His 11.1 SO per 9.0IP in 2018 was the highest total of his career and raised his career mark to 10.0 SO/9IP. The two-time National League All-Star enters 2019 sixth among active pitchers in appearances (698) and his 690 outings since the 2009 season rank second in MLB behind Brad Ziegler (692). This past campaign marked his ninth straight season of at least 67 games pitched, one of just six relievers in MLB history to post as many such campaigns over a career and one of just three (David Weathers 2000-09; Steve Kline 1998-2007) to post them consecutively. He has never been on MLB Injured List over his 12-year career.
