The Seattle Mariners will celebrate Ken Griffey Jr.'s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with a weekend of special events at Safeco Field August 5-6-7 against the Los Angeles Angels. The highlight will be the pregame ceremony on Saturday night when the number 24 becomes the first number of a Mariners player to be retired by the franchise.

A commemorative number retirement logo will be stamped on the baseballs used during all three games and will appear on a patch on the jerseys and caps worn by Mariners players on Friday and Saturday.
Friday, August 5 (game time 7:10 pm)
Saturday, August 6 (pregame ceremony at 5:30 pm)
Representatives of the National Baseball Hall of Fame are scheduled to bring Griffey's actual bronze plaque from the Hall of Fame's gallery in Cooperstown, New York, to Seattle. It will be at Safeco Field for Saturday's pregame ceremony. While the plaque is in Seattle, it will be temporarily replaced in the Hall of Fame's Plaque Gallery with a photo. The actual plaque is scheduled to be reinstalled on August 8.

A Hall of a Player
Griffey's selection for the National Baseball Hall of Fame was announced on January 6. Of 440 ballots submitted, Griffey was named on 437, which accounted for 99.32% of the vote, the highest percentage in the history of the election dating back to 1936. He was the 51st player to be elected in his first year of eligibility and the first inducted as a Seattle Mariner.

Catcher Mike Piazza, the other member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2016, will join Griffey at Cooperstown for the official induction ceremony on Sunday, July 24. The ceremony will be televised by the MLB Network.
