Basabe, Zavala, Kopech named White Sox Minor League Players of the Month

Class A Winston-Salem outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and Class AA Birmingham catcher Seby Zavala have been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League co-Players of the Month for April, and Class AAA Charlotte right-hander Michael Kopech has been named Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.

CHICAGO -- Class A Winston-Salem outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and Class AA Birmingham catcher Seby Zavala have been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League co-Players of the Month for April, and Class AAA Charlotte right-hander Michael Kopech has been named Pitcher of the Month as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.u5:p
Basabe, 21, batted .313 (26-83) with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs, 17 RBI, 16 runs scored, a .400 on-base percentage and .614 slugging percentage over 21 games in April with the Dash. He reached base safely in 19 of his 21 games, including the first nine games of the season.u5:p
The 6-foot, 180-pound Basabe, who is currently rated by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 13 prospect in the White Sox organization, ranks among Carolina League leaders in slugging (1st), total bases (1st, 51), extra-base hits (T1st, 14), triples (2nd) and batting average (8th). He was acquired with Kopech, right-handed pitcher Víctor Díaz and infielder Yoán Moncada from Boston in exchange for left-hander Chris Sale on December 6, 2016.u5:p
Zavala, 24, batted .315 (23-73) with four doubles, six home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored, a .411 on-base percentage and .616 slugging percentage over 22 games in April with the Barons. He recorded an 11-game on-base streak to begin the season, and homered in three straight games from April 23-26. u5:p
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Zavala, who is currently rated by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 21 prospect in the Sox system, is tied for the Southern League lead in home runs and RBI and ranks fourth in slugging. He was selected by Chicago in the 12th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft.u5:p
Kopech, 22, went 0-1 with a 2.14 ERA (5 ER/21.0 IP), 29 strikeouts and a .189 (14-74) opponents average over four starts in April for the Knights. He ranks third in the International League in strikeouts per 9.0 IP (12.4) and fourth in strikeouts.u5:pu5:p 
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Kopech, who is rated by MLBPipeline.com as the No. 10 prospect in baseball, was named White Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May and August last season. He is 9-9 with a 2.78 ERA (48 ER/155.1 IP), 201 strikeouts and a .193 (106-550) opponents average in 29 starts over two seasons in the Sox organization since being acquired from the Red Sox in 2016.u5:p
