St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Marcell Ozuna has been named the National League Player of the Week presented by W.B. Mason for the period ending June 17th.

Ozuna batted .455 (10-for-22) with four runs scored, four home runs, eight RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage over six games played to claim his third career NL Player of the Week Award, last winning for the period ending September 24, 2017 as a member of the Miami Marlins. Among his NL counterparts, Marcell finished the week first in home runs, total bases (22) and slugging percentage; tied for first in RBI; second in batting average; tied for second in hits; tied for fourth in extra-base hits (4); and sixth in on-base percentage (.478). This is St. Louis' first weekly award this season, and the first since Marcell's All-Star teammate Matt Carpenter on June 6, 2016.

Ozuna enters play today in the midst of a season-best 10-game hitting streak dating back to June 7th. During his torrid stretch at the plate, the two-time All-Star has logged five multi-hit games, while also recording at least one RBI in eight contests, raising his batting average to .294 (74-for-252) on the season. On Saturday against the archrival Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium, the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native clubbed his third homer in as many days, as well as his fifth over a seven-game stretch. Ozuna, who was acquired via trade from Miami this past offseason, became the third Cardinals slugger this season to homer in three straight games, joining José Martínez (June 7th-9th) and Tyler O'Neill (May 19th-21st). Following the productive outing, the 27-year-old registered at least one RBI in seven consecutive games, becoming the first Cardinals hitter to accomplish the feat since Matt Holliday in 2013 (August 21st-27th). In addition, the impressive streak is tied for the second-longest of its kind in the NL this season with Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis (April 28th-May 5th), and trails only Cubs All-Star first baseman Anthony Rizzo's eight-game streak from June 2nd-11th. Since the calendar flipped to June, the 2017 Gold Glove Award winner is batting .411 (23-for-56) with nine runs scored, seven home runs and an NL-leading 17 RBI.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Marcell's teammate Jack Flaherty (1-0, 0.79 ERA, 11.1 IP, 13 SO); All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (.357, 6 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI), outfielder Jon Jay (.458, 8 R, 3 XBH, 6 RBI) and outfielder David Peralta (.308, 5 R, 5 XBH, 6 RBI) of the Arizona Diamondbacks; closer Kyle Barraclough (3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO) and backstop J.T. Realmuto (.370, 8 R, 3 HR, 6 RBI) of the Marlins; shortstop Trevor Story (.370, 6 R, 5 XBH, 7 RBI) of the Colorado Rockies; outfielder Rhys Hoskins (.348, 5 R, 3 HR, 6 RBI) of the Philadelphia Phillies; and closer Arodys Vizcaíno (4 SV, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO) of the Braves.
