Mariners add 4 pro scouts; Donovan named assistant director, player personnel

Seattle Mariners Vice President of Player Personnel Tom Allison today announced that the Mariners have hired Todd Donovan and named him Assistant Director, Player Personnel. In addition, Nick Manno, Andy Pratt and Jason Lefkowitz have been hired as Major League Scouts.

Seattle Mariners Vice President of Player Personnel Tom Allison today announced that the Mariners have hired Todd Donovan and named him Assistant Director, Player Personnel. In addition, Nick Manno, Andy Pratt and Jason Lefkowitz have been hired as Major League Scouts. 
 
Donovan, 37, will be active in all facets (pro, amateur & international) of the Mariners scouting operation. He spent the 2015 season as a special assignment scout with the Tampa Bay Rays, where his responsibilities included both pro and amateur scouting. Prior to joining Tampa, Donovan spent the previous five seasons (2010-2014) with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he was (variously) a pro scout, area scout, regional supervisor and national supervisor. Prior to beginning his scouting career with the D-Backs, Donovan spent 11 seasons in the minor leagues with seven different organizations (San Diego, Los Angeles-NL, Cleveland, Baltimore, Texas, Oakland and Toronto). He graduated cum laude from Siena College in 2003.
 
Lefkowitz, 32, was a pro scout with the Houston Astros from December 2013 until joining the Mariners. Prior to Houston, he worked as an associate scout for the Yankees (covering New England) from March 2012-November 2013. Lefkowitz worked in college baseball prior to joining the Yankees. He was an assistant coach at Brown University from August 2006-July 2009 before moving to UC Santa Barbara from Sept. 2009-June 2011. Overlapping his time with the Yankees, Lefkowitz was the MIT Science of Baseball Summer Coordinator from June 2012-August 2013.
 
Manno, 34, was a scout with the Toronto Blue Jays from December, 2009 until being hired by Seattle. He spent 2010 and 2011 as an area scout, and 2012-2015 as a pro scout for the Jays. Prior to joining Toronto, Manno was a Coordinator, Major League Operations for Major League Baseball for two years (March 2007-December 2009). He served as Assistant Director, Player Development for the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals from January, 2003 to August, 2006. Manno is the son of Bruce Manno, a current special assistant with the Cincinnati Reds and a former player development director for the Brewers, Braves and Cardinals.
 
Pratt, 37, spent the past five seasons (2011-2015) as a pro scout with the Milwaukee Brewers. Prior to joining Milwaukee, he was an area scout (Four Corners) for the Texas Rangers (2007-2011). Pratt was the Rangers ninth round selection in the 1998 June Draft following his graduation from Chino Valley (Arizona) HS. A left-handed pitcher, he made his Major League debut on Sept. 28, 2002 vs the Mets, allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run in 1.1 inning pitched. In all, he appeared in 5 Major League games with Atlanta (2002) and the Cubs (2004). He pitched nine seasons in the minors, finishing in 2006, and appeared in 213 games, including 147 starts.
